LGBT Rights in Monaco - Living Conditions

Living Conditions

Most Monagasques affiliate with the Catholic Church, which traditionally views homosexuality and cross-dressing as signs of immorality. Monaco is not affiliated with the European Union, which requires its members to respect certain LGBT-rights protections, but Monaco and its people have a strong cultural and economic relationship with France.

The LGBT community in Monaco does support some gay-friendly establishments within Monaco itself. There are no official gay places to be found in Monaco, as there are in the nearby French cities Marseille, Nice and Lyon.

Famous quotes containing the words living and/or conditions:

I do believe that the outward and the inward life correspond; that if any should succeed to live a higher life, others would not know of it; that difference and distance are one. To set about living a true life is to go on a journey to a distant country, gradually to find ourselves surrounded by new scenes and men; and as long as the old are around me, I know that I am not in any true sense living a new or a better life.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

If there ever are great revolutions there, they will be caused by the presence of the blacks upon American soil. That is to say, it will not be the equality of social conditions but rather their inequality which may give rise to it.
    Alexis de Tocqueville (1805–1859)
