Future

On February 10, 2009, UAE officially announced approval to provide Lebanon with 10 AƩrospatiale Puma transport helicopters that can be delivered immediately. UAE already delivered four helicopters on April 21, 2010; remaining six to follow.

Some media reports mentioned during July 2009 that the United States has conveyed to the UAE its approval for the transfer of BAE Hawk jets to Lebanon.

On January 22, 2010, Lebanon signed a contract with Eurotech to revamp 13 Gazelle helicopters of the original and ex-UAE delivered in addition to equip the ex-UAE Puma helicopters.

During the meeting of the Lebanese-American Joint Military Committee in February 2010, the US expressed its readiness to supply Lebanon with either the Hawker Beechcraft AT 6B or the Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano by 2013; the final choice would depend on which of them the Pentagon will choice for the US forces.

On February 27, 2010, Lebanon decided to replace previously offered MiG-29 jets with Mi-24 attack helicopters.

Famous quotes containing the word future:

If nations always moved from one set of furnished rooms to another—and always into a better set—things might be easier, but the trouble is that there is no one to prepare the new rooms. The future is worse than the ocean—there is nothing there. It will be what men and circumstances make it.
    Alexander Herzen (1812–1870)

The ellipse is as aimless as that,
Stretching invisibly into the future so as to reappear
In our present. Its flexing is its account,
Return to the point of no return.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

The future of America may or may not bring forth a black President, a woman President, a Jewish President, but it most certainly always will have a suburban President. A President whose senses have been defined by the suburbs, where lakes and public baths mutate into back yards and freeways, where walking means driving, where talking means telephoning, where watching means TV, and where living means real, imitation life.
    Arthur Kroker (b. 1945)
