Law of Lithuania - Civil and Commercial Law

Civil and Commercial Law

The civil law and commercial law is codified in a single legal act - the Civil Code of the Republic of Lithuania (Lithuanian: Lietuvos Respublikos civilinis kodeksas) which is in force since 1 July 2001. It is influenced by the civil codes of Quebec and the Netherlands. The commercial law in Lithuania is of an increasingly excellent drafting quality and the market in Lithuanian legal services is now increasingly competitive.

Famous quotes containing the words civil and, civil, commercial and/or law:

There is reason in the distinction of civil and uncivil. The manners are sometimes so rough a rind that we doubt whether they cover any core or sap-wood at all.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The principle of majority rule is the mildest form in which the force of numbers can be exercised. It is a pacific substitute for civil war in which the opposing armies are counted and the victory is awarded to the larger before any blood is shed. Except in the sacred tests of democracy and in the incantations of the orators, we hardly take the trouble to pretend that the rule of the majority is not at bottom a rule of force.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)

The commercial class has always mistrusted verbal brilliancy and wit, deeming such qualities, perhaps with some justice, frivolous and unprofitable.
    Dorothy Nevill (1826–1913)

Trust me that as I ignore all law to help the slave, so will I ignore it all to protect an enslaved woman.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)
