Lamb Waves in Acousto-ultrasonic Testing

Acousto-ultrasonic testing differs from ultrasonic testing in that it was conceived as a means of assessing damage (and other material attributes) distributed over substantial areas, rather than characterizing flaws individually. Lamb waves are well suited to this concept, because they irradiate the whole plate thickness and propagate substantial distances with consistent patterns of motion.

Famous quotes containing the words lamb, waves and/or testing:

    Mary had a little lamb,
    Its fleece was white as snow,
    And every where that Mary went
    The lamb was sure to go;
    He followed her to school one day—
    That was against the rule,
    It made the children laugh and play,
    To see a lamb at school.
    Sarah Josepha Buell Hale (1788–1879)

    During our twenties...we act toward the new adulthood the way sociologists tell us new waves of immigrants acted on becoming Americans: we adopt the host culture’s values in an exaggerated and rigid fashion until we can rethink them and make them our own. Our idea of what adults are and what we’re supposed to be is composed of outdated childhood concepts brought forward.
    Roger Gould (20th century)

    Today so much rebellion is aimless and demoralizing precisely because children have no values to challenge. Teenage rebellion is a testing process in which young people try out various values in order to make them their own. But during those years of trial, error, embarrassment, a child needs family standards to fall back on, reliable habits of thought and feeling that provide security and protection.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)
