History
The district was founded in 1951 when the Shrub Oak, Toddville, and Van Cortlandtville school districts merged. In 1952, the Lakeland School District opened its doors to 1,282 children in small neighborhood schools. At its peak in 1973, the district served 8594 students before dropping to its current levels of around 6300 students.
