Historically, Lake Charles was served by Eastern Airlines during the 1950's with Martin 4-0-4 and Convair 440 twin prop "Silver Falcon" airliner flights to Houston via Beaumont/Port Arthur and also to Baton Rouge and New Orleans via Lafayette. In later years, Trans-Texas Airways (TTa) served the airport with Convair 600 turboprop flights primarily to Houston and New Orleans. Trans-Texas Airways subsequently changed its name to Texas International Airlines and introduced Douglas DC-9-10 jetliner service from Lake Charles to Houston and New Orleans with direct service to Dallas/Ft. Worth. Royale Airlines, which was a commuter air carrier based in Louisiana, also served the airport with Beechcraft and Embraer EMB-110 "Bandeirante" turboprop flights to Houston and New Orleans. Another commuter air carrier, Metro Airlines, served Lake Charles as well with Shorts 330 turboprop service to Houston.

Currently, American Eagle and ExpressJet operating as United Express both serve Lake Charles with all flights being operated by Embraer ERJ 135/140/145 series regional jet aircraft.

Famous quotes containing the word scheduled:

Airplanes are invariably scheduled to depart at such times as 7:54, 9:21 or 11:37. This extreme specificity has the effect on the novice of instilling in him the twin beliefs that he will be arriving at 10:08, 1:43 or 4:22, and that he should get to the airport on time. These beliefs are not only erroneous but actually unhealthy.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
