Lahontan State Recreation Area

Lahontan State Recreation Area is a state park unit of Nevada, USA, surrounding Lake Lahontan on the Carson River. Lahontan became a Nevada State Recreation Area on July 1, 1971. The recreation area is open all year, and includes the Lahontan Dam, a 162-foot-high (49 m), 1,700-foot-long (520 m) dam completed in 1915.

The park is located about 45 miles (72 km) northeast of Nevada's capital, Carson City, and 18 miles (29 km) west of Fallon. A corridor known as Carson River Ranches connects Lahontan with Fort Churchill State Historic Park.

Famous quotes containing the words state, recreation and/or area:

Thus we steadily worship Mammon, both school and state and church, and on the seventh day curse God with a tintamar from one end of the Union to the other.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Media mystifications should not obfuscate a simple, perceivable fact; Black teenage girls do not create poverty by having babies. Quite the contrary, they have babies at such a young age precisely because they are poor—because they do not have the opportunity to acquire an education, because meaningful, well-paying jobs and creative forms of recreation are not accessible to them ... because safe, effective forms of contraception are not available to them.
    Angela Davis (b. 1944)

Self-esteem is the real magic wand that can form a child’s future. A child’s self-esteem affects every area of her existence, from friends she chooses, to how well she does academically in school, to what kind of job she gets, to even the person she chooses to marry.
    Stephanie Martson (20th century)
