Awards and Honors

Together with his collaborator Willy Ley, de Camp won the 1953 International Fantasy Award for nonfiction for their Lands Beyond, their study of geographical myths. De Camp was guest of honor at the 1966 World Science Fiction Convention. In 1976, he received the World Science Fiction Society's Gandalf Grand Master award for lifetime achievement in fantasy writing; he was designated a SFWA Grandmaster in 1979. He won a World Fantasy Convention award in 1984, the first Sidewise Award for Alternate History Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994, and a Hugo Award in 1997 for his autobiography, Time and Chance.
