KP Singh made Gurgaon a world-famous outsourcing destination, within a time period of 10 years, because of his world-class earthquake-proof office buildings, apartments, shopping malls and leisure facilities (including the DLF GaMY Player designed Golf Course).

Gurgaon is renowned for its large number of call centers and shopping malls.

Under his tenure, as the Chairman of DLF, the company went for an initial public offering in 2007 and made about $2.24 billion. It is one of the largest IPOs in India and was soon followed by an upsurge in the market capitalization of the company to a level of $24.5 billion, making Singh and his family one of the richest clans in the world. Also, in 2008, he was briefly the world’s richest real estate tycoon.

Jack Welch, the former chairman and CEO of General Electric, told in one of his interview that Singh was one of the initiator for GE’s entry into India.

Famous quotes containing the word activities:

The most remarkable aspect of the transition we are living through is not so much the passage from want to affluence as the passage from labor to leisure.... Leisure contains the future, it is the new horizon.... The prospect then is one of unremitting labor to bequeath to future generations a chance of founding a society of leisure that will overcome the demands and compulsions of productive labor so that time may be devoted to creative activities or simply to pleasure and happiness.
    Henri Lefebvre (b. 1901)

Minds do not act together in public; they simply stick together; and when their private activities are resumed, they fly apart again.
    Frank Moore Colby (1865–1925)

No culture on earth outside of mid-century suburban America has ever deployed one woman per child without simultaneously assigning her such major productive activities as weaving, farming, gathering, temple maintenance, and tent-building. The reason is that full-time, one-on-one child-raising is not good for women or children.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
