Famous quotes containing the word people:
“Mighty few young black women are doin domestic work. And Im glad. Thats why I want my kids to go to school. This one lady told me, All you people are gettin like that. I said, Im glad. Theres no more gettin on their knees.”
—Maggie Holmes, African American domestic worker. As quoted in Working, book 3, by Studs Terkel (1973)
“These people who are always briskly doing something and as busy as waltzing mice, they have little, sharp, staccato ideas.... But they have no slow, big ideas. And the fewer consoling, noble, shining, free, jovial, magnanimous ideas that come, the more nervously and desperately they rush and run from office to office and up and downstairs, thinking by action at last to make life have some warmth and meaning.”
—Brenda Ueland (18911985)
“The lesson should be constantly enforced that though the people support the Government, Government should not support the people.”
—Grover Cleveland (18371908)
