Kuku Nyungkal People - Country

Country

Norman Tindale's (1974) Catalogue of Australian Aboriginal tribes identifies Kokonyungal country as covering from "Annan River; south to Rossville; west to Annan-Normanby Divide"

Kuku Nyungkal people, in their own country based Strategic Plan, describe the extent of their country as follows:

Kuku Nyungkal Country lies in the northern part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The boundaries of our Country stretch from Annan River, Kings Plain, Rossville, Shiptons Flat and Mount Amos/Archer Point to Cedar Bay and includes Hope Islands

A locally informed and produced "Bama Way" map acknowledges Kuku Nynungkal country and advises it is bounded to the north by the lower Annan River (aka Yuku Baja), and to the south by Russell Creek (aka Ngarrilmurril')

Famous quotes containing the word country:

No country has suffered so much from the ruins of war while being at peace as the American.
    Edward Dahlberg (1900–1977)

What is a country without rabbits and partridges? They are among the most simple and indigenous animal products; ancient and venerable families known to antiquity as to modern times; of the very hue and substance of Nature, nearest allied to leaves and to the ground,—and to one another; it is either winged or it is legged. It is hardly as if you had seen a wild creature when a rabbit or a partridge bursts away, only a natural one, as much to be expected as rustling leaves.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

She had never known before how much the country meant to her. The chirping of the insects in the long grass had been like the sweetest music. She had felt as if her heart were hiding down there, somewhere, with the quail and the plover and all the little wild things that crooned or buzzed in the sun. Under the long shaggy ridges, she felt the future stirring.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
