Mary Lutyens was acquainted with Krishnamurti from 1911 until his death. This volume describes Krishnamurti's life from birth to year-end 1933. Lutyens states in the "Foreword" that the decision regarding the cut-off date (1933) was based on her and others' opinion that this was the year "when Krishnamurti’s own teaching came into flower" – and therefore the remainder of Krishnamurti's biography "could not be written in the same way".
The work includes information (previously unpublished, and until then available only to a few of his associates) about the so-called process, a strange condition that intermittently affected Krishnamurti from 1922 until his death. The first edition was published simultaneously in the United Kingdom and the United States in 1975, and includes several photographs.
