Refurbishments

  • In 1986, the air conditioning secondary power device was changed from motor generator to inverter. These inverters were replaced by new IGBT-inverter in 2004. Air conditioner was changed from piston type to screw motor type.
  • In 1988 1st batch cars were retrofitted with air conditioning.
  • In 2000 TIS was installed in some 2nd batch and all 3rd batch cars, and stop notifiers were also installed for rapid (express) train service.
  • In 2003, the Daegu subway fire resulted in the need to introduce flame-resistant interiors for passengers safety, so the interiors of all Korail trains were changed into flame-resistant type. Front and side destination signs, as well as some train number indicators were upgraded from film to LED.
  • In 2006 to 2007 some of 1st batch trailer cars were repainted into new Korail livery, and interiors were replaced into inflammable type. They are connected to some of 2nd and 3rd batch cars.
  • In 2007 some of 2nd batch cars' doors were modified.
    • Some trains that originally had long rectangular windows received doors with short, square windows.
    • Trainsets 1-47~1-49 received the doors used in the newest trains.
