Gospel Values and Christ Centered Character Set Us Apart

The religious character of Knoxville Catholic High School is what sets us apart from other secondary schools in the Knoxville area. All spiritual activities are intended to proclaim Jesus Christ, in light of Catholic Church teaching, for the interior transformation of the student and the renewal of humanity. The Religion Department exercises the lead role in the religious education of its students in order to foster personal relationships with Jesus Christ and His Body, the Church. Gospel values are incorporated throughout all course work. The fruit of deeper relationship with Jesus Christ is recognition of His presence in others and treating them accordingly:

“Whatever you did for these least brothers of mine, you did for me”~ Matthew 25:40

Therefore, in imitation of Jesus’ loving concern for others, KCHS students contribute thousands of service hours every school year. Students volunteer for many organizations that are working to improve lives in our community and beyond, including Habitat for Humanity, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, the YMCA and YWCA, Catholic Charities, and more.

Each school day begins and ends with a prayer, and all classes also start with a prayer. Daily Mass is celebrated in the Holy Trinity Chapel. School-wide Masses are generally celebrated twice a month and on Holy Days of Obligation. The Sacrament of Penance is offered communally during Advent and Lent, through Religion classes and individually by appointment. All student organizations are encouraged to incorporate discipleship principles in their activities.

Ultimately, a student leaves Knoxville Catholic High School with the knowledge and training necessary to continue a life of discipleship of the Lord Jesus Christ and thus to influence a constantly changing world. Disciple formation in a Catholic school involves:

- Promoting knowledge of the Faith - Liturgical celebration - Moral formation - Fostering prayer - Education for community life - Missionary initiation

Famous quotes containing the words faith and/or service:

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active—not more happy—nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1845)

The true courage of civilized nations is readiness for sacrifice in the service of the state, so that the individual counts as only one amongst many. The important thing here is not personal mettle but aligning oneself with the universal.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)
