Knife Legislation - Austria

Austria

In accordance with the Austrian Arms Act of 1996 (Waffengesetz 1996) it is illegal to buy, import, possess or carry weapons that are disguised as another object or as an object of common use (sword canes, e.g., or knives disguised as ink pens, brush handles or belt buckles). Certain other types of weapons, namely blackjacks, steel rods and brass knuckles are completely forbidden as well. The law further provides that certain bladed weapons such as push daggers are either prohibited or require a special license. There are no restrictions or prohibitions based on blade length, and automatic opening knives (switchblades), OTF automatic knives, balisongs, and gravity knives are implicitly permitted under the Arms Act. All bladed weapons that are not specifically prohibited or restricted may be bought, possessed and carried by anyone over the age of 18 who has not been forbidden from doing so by the civilian authorities.

Famous quotes containing the word austria:

All the terrors of the French Republic, which held Austria in awe, were unable to command her diplomacy. But Napoleon sent to Vienna M. de Narbonne, one of the old noblesse, with the morals, manners, and name of that interest, saying, that it was indispensable to send to the old aristocracy of Europe men of the same connection, which, in fact, constitutes a sort of free- masonry. M. de Narbonne, in less than a fortnight, penetrated all the secrets of the imperial cabinet.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
