History
The station opened in 1939 upon construction of the Cronulla Line as a single-platform station.
Kirrawee was rebuilt as part of the duplication of the remaining single track sections of the Cronulla line, under the CityRail Clearways Project. Work commenced in late 2007 and was completed in 2010. The platform used to extend to the other side of the Oak Road overbridge but was straightened by extending the platform to the east.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history of work has been, in part, the history of the workers body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.”
—Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
“Anyone who is practically acquainted with scientific work is aware that those who refuse to go beyond fact rarely get as far as fact; and anyone who has studied the history of science knows that almost every great step therein has been made by the anticipation of Nature.”
—Thomas Henry Huxley (182595)
“No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
