History

Kipling Station, in what was then the Borough of Etobicoke, opened to the public on 22 November 1980 along with Kennedy station as part of east-west extensions to the Bloor-Danforth line. As the western terminus of the line the subway station is built with a centre platform allowing trains to enter on either side. The platform walls are yellow with black stripes and has the station's name in the Toronto Subway Font.

As a result of the initial lack of density and its location near a hydro substation, the station was originally designed around commuter travel with a large amount of parking space and a roughed in platform for a future LRT line. Due to this design, the area around Kipling station is considered to be a travel hub and it is being further developed to contain a regional bus platform as well as improved access to the nearby GO station.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of reform is always identical; it is the comparison of the idea with the fact. Our modes of living are not agreeable to our imagination. We suspect they are unworthy. We arraign our daily employments.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

In front of these sinister facts, the first lesson of history is the good of evil. Good is a good doctor, but Bad is sometimes a better.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
