The Rose Family
Kilravock Castle has been continuously tenanted by the Roses, a family of Norman origin, who arrived in Britain with William the Conqueror. They settled at Kilravock in 1293, since which date son has succeeded father without the interposition of a collateral heir, an instance of direct descent unique in Scottish history. Moreover, many Roses have borne the Christian name of Hugh, and only one attained to a higher social rank than that of laird. The present chief of the Clan Rose, is Anna Elizabeth Emily Guillemard Rose, 25th of Kilravock. Some of the present descendents of the Clan Rose now reside in the State of Maine, located in the United States; many still remain in Scotland and some reside in the east of London.

Famous quotes containing the words rose and/or family:
“...the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to revel.”
—Bible: Hebrew, Exodus 32:6.
“Providing for ones family as a good husband and father is a water-tight excuse for making money hand over fist. Greed may be a sin, exploitation of other people might, on the face of it, look rather nasty, but who can blame a man for doing the best for his children?”
—Eva Figes (b. 1932)
