Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship

The St. Canice's Credit Union Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1887 for the top hurling teams in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland.

The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Nowlan Park in October. The prize for the winning team is the Tom Walsh Cup. The championship had always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the series, however, in recent years group stages have been introduced.

The Kilkenny County Championship is an integral part of the wider Leinster GAA Senior Club Hurling Championship. The winners of the Kilkenny county final join the champions of the other five hurling counties to contest the provincial championship.

Twelve clubs currently participate in the Kilkenny County Championship. The title has been won at least once by twenty-six different clubs. The all-time record-holders are Tullaroan, who have won the competition 20 times.

Ballyhale Shamrocks are the current title-holders after defeating Dicksboro in the 2012 championship decider.

Famous quotes containing the word senior:

Adolescents have the right to be themselves. The fact that you were the belle of the ball, the captain of the lacrosse team, the president of your senior class, Phi Beta Kappa, or a political activist doesn’t mean that your teenager will be or should be the same....Likewise, the fact that you were a wallflower, uncoordinated, and a C student shouldn’t mean that you push your child to be everything you were not.
    Laurence Steinberg (20th century)
