Classification Scheme
Kienbock's disease is classified by features that indicate the severity of the problem.
- Normal radiograph (possible lunate fracture).
- Sclerosis of the lunate without collapse. (Portions of the lunate begin to deteriorate. This shows as a white blemish on x-rays.)
- Lunate is completely dead. (The entire Lunate is dead. There is no living matter within the bone.)
- Changes up to and including fragmentation, with superimposed arthritic changes.
Depending on what stage the disease is diagnosed in will depend on the best course of treatment. For example, if diagnosed in stage 2, a surgeon may recommend a Horry Procedure to attempt to replenish
