Art Collection
Eastman purchased his first piece of original artwork ("a couple of pages that were penciled by Michael Golden and inked by Bob McLeod for Marvel Comics' Howard the Duck") at the Atlanta convention he and Laird attended in 1984. Collecting subsequently became "quite an addiction" for him, and, combined with his experiences in getting his (and others') comics work recognised as "Art," led to him founding the Words & Pictures Museum.

Famous quotes containing the words art and/or collection:
“Hail, hail, plump paunch, O the founder of taste
For fresh meats, or powdered, or pickle, or paste;
Devourer of broiled, baked, roasted or sod,
And emptier of cups, be they even or odd;
All which have now made thee so wide i the waist
As scarce with no pudding thou art to be laced;
But eating and drinking until thou dost nod,
Thou breakst all thy girdles, and breakst forth a god.”
—Ben Jonson (15721637)
“The Nature of Familiar Letters, written, as it were, to the Moment, while the Heart is agitated by Hopes and Fears, on Events undecided, must plead an Excuse for the Bulk of a Collection of this Kind. Mere Facts and Characters might be comprised in a much smaller Compass: But, would they be equally interesting?”
—Samuel Richardson (16891761)
