Playing Career

Undrafted, Dallman signed his first professional contract with the Boston Bruins on July 18, 2002 after a successful junior career at Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League. After spending three years with affiliate Providence Bruins, Dallman made his debut for the Bruins in the 2005–06 season.

Dallman played 21 games for the Bruins before he was claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Blues on December 5, 2005. After a solid performance with the Blues, Dallman signed as a free agent for the Los Angeles Kings to a two-year contract on July 10, 2006.

On July 24, 2008, After two years in the Kings organization Dallman left for Europe signing for Barys Astana of the newly formed Russian KHL.

Although he had a lack of success in the NHL, he became an offensive leader with Barys Astana, leading the KHL in scoring among defenseman with 28 goals, 30 assists for 58 points in 53 games.

Dallman was asked to become a citizen of Kazakhstan to play on the National Team, but decided against it. In April of 2012, it appeared his family was banned from Kazakhstan because his wife criticized the government in a blog post. Apparently, the team consequently discarded his new 3-year contract at the demands of the president of the country.

On May 18, 2012 Astana Barys team managers refused to extend the contract with Kevin Dallman. The official reason goes like this: “We have agreed with his agent that if the team fulfills its task and reaches the final of the tournament, we will return to discussing the contract’s extension. But the team didn’t reached the final and Kevin, himself, didn’t show his best skills in the play-off. The issue in question was whether to prolong his contract or not. The hockey player asked for a four-year contract and the sum was quite large. That is why the decision was made not to extend the contract,” Barys president Nurlan Orabayev said.

The reality is that after some truthful comments made in Dallman's wife's blog, they created an "official" story. They banned Mrs. Dallman from Kazakhstan, and her husband naturally, went with her. Many other teams have shown interest in Dallman and playing in a country where a person might enjoy freedom of speech, is the best option.

It was later announced that former Barys captain Kevin Dallman had signed a two-year contract with Saint-Petersburg SKA Hockey Club on May 31, 2012.

His uncle, Marty Dallman, played six games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the late 1980s and played for Austria at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
