Keon Park Railway Station - History

History

Keon Park station opened in 1929 as Keonpark, and was renamed Keon Park in 1972. The station opened at the same time as the extension of suburban services and electrification from Reservoir to Thomastown. Duplication was extended to the station in 1959, in conjunction with the extension of suburban services to Lalor. In 2011, the line was duplicated from Keon Park to Epping. The part of Reservoir east of the railway line and south of Keon Parade is sometimes known as Keon Park, and many of the shops in Johnston Street (which runs parallel to the railway line) include Keon Park in their names.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

History is more or less bunk. It’s tradition. We don’t want tradition. We want to live in the present and the only history that is worth a tinker’s damn is the history we make today.
    Henry Ford (1863–1947)

You treat world history as a mathematician does mathematics, in which nothing but laws and formulas exist, no reality, no good and evil, no time, no yesterday, no tomorrow, nothing but an eternal, shallow, mathematical present.
    Hermann Hesse (1877–1962)

No cause is left but the most ancient of all, the one, in fact, that from the beginning of our history has determined the very existence of politics, the cause of freedom versus tyranny.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)
