Kentucky Horse Park Arboretum

The Kentucky Horse Park Arboretum is a newly certified arboretum located on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park, 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Kentucky, USA. An admission fee is charged for the Horse Park. Guided tours of the arboretum are given at 3:00 p.m. on the last Sunday of each month, but self-guided tours may be taken at any time.

Although the formal arboretum was established in 2004, many of its trees were by then well-established, with some dating to the 18th century. It now contains more than 1,000 trees representing over 75 species. Approximately half are native to Kentucky; the others are indigenous to Europe and Asia. Markers identify the trees by both common and scientific names.

Famous quotes containing the words kentucky, horse and/or park:

    He believes without reservation that Kentucky is the garden spot of the world, and is ready to dispute with anyone who questions his claim. In his enthusiasm for his State he compares with the Methodist preacher whom Timothy Flint heard tell a congregation that “Heaven is a Kentucky of a place.”
    —For the State of Kentucky, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

    The horse is taught his manage, and no star
    Of wildest course but treads back his own steps;
    William Wordsworth (1770–1850)

    The label of liberalism is hardly a sentence to public igominy: otherwise Bruce Springsteen would still be rehabilitating used Cadillacs in Asbury Park and Jane Fonda, for all we know, would be just another overweight housewife.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
