Aftermath

After the war, only seven men were charged for their alleged role in Sook Ching in 1947:

  1. Oishi Masayuki, commander of the 2nd Field Kempeitai.
  2. Nishimura Takuma, commander of the Imperial Guards Division.
  3. Kawamura Saburo, commander of the Syonan Defence Garrison.
  4. Yokota Yoshitaka
  5. Jyo Tomotatsu
  6. Onishi Satoru
  7. Hisamatsu Haruji

Kawamura and Oishi received the death sentence while the remaining five were given life sentences but served just five years until 1952, when Japan regained its sovereignty.
