Education
Campbell grew up in Birmingham, and raised in Perth, Scotland. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of London. In 1983 Campbell was awarded the Marie Curie Research Scholarship, which led to graduate studies and later his doctoral degree from the University of Sussex (Brighton, England, UK).
