The Keihanshin industrial region (京阪神工業地帯, Keihanshin kōgyō chitai?) encompasses the Japanese cities of Kyōto, Ōsaka and Kōbe and their surrounding prefectures.
The term Keihanshin is composed of one character of each of the cities, but in their Sino-Japanese reading: kei of Kyōto 都; han of Ōsaka 大, shin of Kōbe 戸.

Famous quotes containing the words industrial and/or region:
“The Enormous Room seems to me to be the book that has nearest approached the mood of reckless adventure in which men will reach the white heat of imagination needed to fuse the soggy disjointed complexity of the industrial life about us into seething fluid of creation. There can be no more playing safe.”
—John Dos Passos (18961970)
“Biography is a very definite region bounded on the north by history, on the south by fiction, on the east by obituary, and on the west by tedium.”
—Philip Guedalla (18891944)
