Early Life

Hawes was born in Marylebone, London. The daughter of a London cab driver, she was trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School, which included ten years of elocution lessons. Hawes left home at age 17 and worked in a casino until she was spotted by a modelling scout on Oxford Street and signed up by Select until she was cast in Dennis Potter's Karaoke in 1996.
