Building
The main Students' Union building was designed by architects Stillman & Eastwick-Field (now part of the TP Bennett practice), with some guidance from the University's architect, J.A. Pickavance.
From January 2012, the ground floor went through a £2.5 million refurbishment. This was completed in September 2012, before students arrived for the start of the 2012/13 academic year. With this new development came the relocation of the Independent Advice Unit to the ground floor, the coffee bar 'Barista' becoming 'Blend' and the catering facilities 'The Kiln' and 'Harveys' becoming 'Munch' with a built to purpose kitchen. You can see images of the development in the Redevelopment Gallery.

Famous quotes containing the word building:
“Marxism is like a classical building that followed the Renaissance; beautiful in its way, but incapable of growth.”
—Harold MacMillan (18941986)
“History is a child building a sand-castle by the sea, and that child is the whole majesty of mans power in the world.”
—Heraclitus (c. 535475 B.C.)
“I love art, and I love history, but it is living art and living history that I love.... It is in the interest of living art and living history that I oppose so-called restoration. What history can there be in a building bedaubed with ornament, which cannot at the best be anything but a hopeless and lifeless imitation of the hope and vigour of the earlier world?”
—William Morris (18341896)
