Saito is a 192 cm (6 ft 4 in), 95 kg (210 lb) right-handed power pitcher. He has an overhand drop-and-drive delivery that makes full use of his lower body, somewhat unusual for a pitcher of his height.
Saito throws a live 142 to 148 km/h (88 to 92 mph) four-seam fastball that routinely reached 152 km/h (94 mph) in his prime as well as a splitter, curveball and slider. He often uses the splitter, a pitch with a hard 12-to-6 break that has been clocked as fast as 146 km/h (91 mph), as his out pitch.
