Katherine Chancellor
Katherine Chancellor Murphy (née Shepherd; formerly Reynolds, Thurston and Sterling) is a fictional character from the American CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, portrayed by actress Jeanne Cooper since 1973. The character was introduced by William J. Bell in an effort to increase ratings by introducing controversial storylines to the show. At 40 years, Cooper is the currently the longest-serving actor in American soap operas. Over the years, Katherine has been involved in several controversial plots and relationships.
