Famous quotes containing the words japanese, navy and/or detachments:

In fact, the whole of Japan is a pure invention. There is no such country, there are no such people.... The Japanese people are ... simply a mode of style, an exquisite fancy of art.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

The Navy is the asylum for the perverse, the home of the unfortunate. Here the sons of adversity meet the children of calamity, and here the children of calamity meet the offspring of sin.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

Our detachments move us toward freedom and death.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
