Background
Prithviraj Kapoor, the first of the family to pursue acting, was born in 1901 in the town of Samundri near Faisalabad, in the Punjab province of then British India now Pakistan. His father, a policeman, was posted at Peshawar, and his grandfather was a Tehsildar in Samundri. Prithviraj's first lead role was in Cinema Girl in 1929.
Though all three of Prithviraj Kapoor's sons, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, and Shashi Kapoor, became actors, it is Raj Kapoor's descendants who have carried on the family legacy. His sons, Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, went on to become well-known actors; his youngest son, Rajiv Kapoor, was not as successful as his brothers. Randhir Kapoor's and Babita's daughters, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, have found success in the film industry. Rishi Kapoor's son, Ranbir Kapoor, made his debut in 2007 opposite Sonam Kapoor, the daughter of Anil Kapoor, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya.

Famous quotes containing the word background:
“... every experience in life enriches ones background and should teach valuable lessons.”
—Mary Barnett Gilson (1877?)
“I had many problems in my conduct of the office being contrasted with President Kennedys conduct in the office, with my manner of dealing with things and his manner, with my accent and his accent, with my background and his background. He was a great public hero, and anything I did that someone didnt approve of, they would always feel that President Kennedy wouldnt have done that.”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
“Silence is the universal refuge, the sequel to all dull discourses and all foolish acts, a balm to our every chagrin, as welcome after satiety as after disappointment; that background which the painter may not daub, be he master or bungler, and which, however awkward a figure we may have made in the foreground, remains ever our inviolable asylum, where no indignity can assail, no personality can disturb us.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
