Kansas City Missouri Temple - Open House and Dedication

Open House and Dedication

The temple was opened to the public for an open house between April 7, 2012 - April 28, 2012. Among the visitors were Missouri governor Jay Nixon and Kansas governor Sam Brownback, who were given a private tour on April 5, 2012. Both governors presented proclamations to the LDS Church congratulating them on the completion of the temple. Over 92,000 people toured the temple. 47 states and 11 countries were represented at the open house.

On May 5, 2012, church members between the ages of 12-18 who reside in the new temple district staged a cultural performance at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium in celebration of the completion of the temple. The following day, May 6, 2012, the temple was dedicated by Thomas S. Monson.

Famous quotes containing the words open, house and/or dedication:

The poorest children in a community now find the beneficent kindergarten open to them from the age of two-and-a-half to six years. Too young heretofore to be eligible to any public school, they have acquired in their babyhood the vicious tendencies of their own depraved neighborhoods; and to their environment at that tender age had been due the loss of decency and self-respect that no after example of education has been able to restore to them.
    Virginia Thrall Smith (1836–1903)

A mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law in one house are like two cats in a bag.
    Yiddish Proverb.

It is difficult for me to imagine the same dedication to women’s rights on the part of the kind of man who lives in partnership with someone he likes and respects, and the kind of man who considers breast-augmentation surgery self-improvement.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
