Kansas Board of Regents

The Kansas Board of Regents is a body consisting of nine members which governs six state universities in the U.S. state of Kansas. In addition to these six universities, it also supervises and coordinates nineteen community colleges, five technical colleges, six technical schools and a municipal university. Refer to the list of colleges and universities for details on the individual schools.

The board was established by law on July 1, 1925. Originally the separate educational institutions each had its own individual boards of Regents. The move toward consolidation began in 1913 with the creation of a State Board of Administration, which provided oversight over the individual boards of Regents.

Famous quotes containing the words kansas and/or board:

Since the Civil War its six states have produced fewer political ideas, as political ideas run in the Republic, than any average county in Kansas or Nebraska.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

What happens in a strike happens not to one person alone.... It is a crisis with meaning and potency for all and prophetic of a future. The elements in crisis are the same, there is a fermentation that is identical. The elements are these: a body of men, women and children, hungry; an organization of feudal employers out to break the back of unionization; and the government Labor Board sent to “negotiate” between this hunger and this greed.
    Meridel Le Sueur (b. 1900)
