History
In the time of Kurdistan Uyezd, the Kalbajar region was a predominantly Kurdish inhabited area. After deportation of the Kurds under Joseph Stalin, Azeris constituted the main part of the population.
As a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh War, the area was taken by Armenian forces in 1992. Subsequently the Azeri population fled the region.
