  • Al-Qaeda's Ramzi Yousef had planned to blow up U.S. airliners from Kai Tak Airport as part of the Bojinka Plot.
  • 18 October 1983 - A Lufthansa Boeing 747 freighter abandoned takeoff after engine no. 2 malfunctioned, probably at speed exceeding V1 (the takeoff/abort decision point). The aircraft overran the runway onto soft ground and sustained severe damage. 3 were injured.
