Justin Welch

Justin Steven Welch (born 4 December 1972 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire) is an English musician, best known as the drummer in the Britpop band, Elastica.

Welch moved to London in his late teens, where he studied at London's Drumtech drum school. He played drums in a number of bands in the early 1990s including an early line-up of Suede, where he would first meet Justine Frischmann. He was also the drummer of a garage rock band, Spitfire, for a number of years.

Welch would join Elastica in 1991, who would go on to have considerable chart and critical success in the mid-1990s.

Like other members of Elastica, he had some problems with drugs, although he is now said to be clean. The band split in 2001 and Justin now lives in Devon, with former Elastica and Heave keyboardist Sharon Mew, to whom he is married. He is now involved in a project alongside James Atkin, former frontman and lead singer of EMF.

Famous quotes containing the word welch:

    He promised
that life would go on as usual,
that treaties would be signed, and everyone—
man, woman and child—would be inoculate
against a world in which we had no part,
a world of money, promise and disease.
