• National Hockey League: Four new members of the Hockey Hall of Fame are announced: the all-time leading goal and point scorer among defensemen, Ray Bourque, the second-leading goal scorer among defensemen, Paul Coffey, the second-leading point scorer among defensemen Larry Murphy, and Cliff Fletcher, former general manager of the Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs. The induction ceremony will be held on November 8 in Toronto.
