  • First 80 troops of a 250-strong provincial reconstruction team arrives in Afghanistan. Gen. Rick Hillier, chief of defence staff, warned that there could be casualties from the Kandahar reconstruction mission. (CP)

  • A bomb threat hoax temporarily shut down several Toronto subway stations. (CP)
  • A Northern Thunderbird Air plane carrying two flight crew has gone missing between Vancouver and Smithers, BC. Two Canadian Forces Buffalo aircraft are searching the origin and destination areas while CH-149 Cormorant helicopters search the glacier area halfway between. The CCGC Cape Caution is searching Jervis Inlet along the 600 kilometre flight path and two planes operated by the Canadian Air Search and Rescue Association are assisting. The King Air 200 was carrying no passengers or freight. (CP)
  • A four year old girl is in a Vancouver hospital in serious condition after suffering serious head and scalp injuries from a cougar attack on northern Vancouver Island. (CP)
