Coaching Career

As a football manager he coached the Czech Republic from 1998 to 2001. He managed to qualify his team to Euro 2000 but then failed to do so for the World Cup 2002, being eliminated by Belgium in the play-off matches two times by 1-0.

On 8 October 2008, Chovanec returned to AC Sparta Prague for his fourth spell as manager and parted from the club in December 2011.

On 19 June 2012, Chovanec was appointed as head coach of UAE Pro-League side Baniyas SC.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

It is a great many years since at the outset of my career I had to think seriously what life had to offer that was worth having. I came to the conclusion that the chief good for me was freedom to learn, think, and say what I pleased, when I pleased. I have acted on that conviction... and though strongly, and perhaps wisely, warned that I should probably come to grief, I am entirely satisfied with the results of the line of action I have adopted.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)
