History
Badalona has had a basketball team since March 30, 1930, when Joventut was founded as Penya Spirit of Badalona. Apart from basketball, the club initially had teams involved in several sports including cycling, table tennis and football. In 1932, the club changed its name to Centre Esportiu Badaloní. In 1939, it became Club Joventut Badalona. By 1940, basketball was established as the club's main sport and green and black were adopted as the club's colors.
Between the 1950s and 1970s the club had a great rivalry with Real Madrid and with the other neighboring teams, playing memorable duels. During the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, Joventut had the best years in its history. Today, the club's sponsored name is FIATC Joventut, named after the Spanish insurance company FIATC. Currently, Badalona's basketball club is feeling the same magic of years ago.
Joventut Badalona is one of only three teams, along with CB Estudiantes and Real Madrid to have played every year in the top Spanish ACB League. Joventut is considered to have the best youth teams in Europe. Players like the Jofresa's Brothers, Jordi Villacampa, Rudy Fernández, and Ricky Rubio were developed in Joventut's youth teams.
Joventut Badalona was the first Catalan and second Spanish team to win a Euroleague title. In 1994, Badalona became the champion of the Euroleague and thus reached the top of European basketball. In 2006, Badalona won the Eurocup championship, and in 2008, the club won the Eurocup championship. Joventut also won 2 Korać Cup championships in the years 1981 and 1990.
