The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) is a philanthropic grant making trust that chiefly supports work undertaken in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. It is one of four trusts set up by Joseph Rowntree in 1904.
The JRCT states:
- We are an independent, progressive organisation committed to funding radical change towards a better world.
- The JRCT makes grants to individuals and to projects seeking the creation of a peaceful world, political equality and social justice.
In 2005 the trust launched a scheme with the aim of supporting six applicants full-time to carry out their personal missions as "Visionaries for a Just and Peaceful World". Seven people were chosen, with two sharing an award.
Famous quotes containing the words joseph, charitable and/or trust:
“Not many people know that.”
—Michael Caine [Maurice Joseph Micklewhite] (b. 1933)
“For my name and memory I leave it to mens charitable speeches, and to foreign nations, and the next ages.”
—Francis Bacon (15611626)
“Parents do not give up their children to strangers lightly. They wait in uncertain anticipation for an expression of awareness and interest in their children that is as genuine as their own. They are subject to ambivalent feelings of trust and competitiveness toward a teacher their child loves and to feelings of resentment and anger when their child suffers at her hands. They place high hopes in their children and struggle with themselves to cope with their childrens failures.”
—Dorothy H. Cohen (20th century)
