Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) is a philanthropic grant making trust that chiefly supports work undertaken in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. It is one of four trusts set up by Joseph Rowntree in 1904.

The JRCT states:

We are an independent, progressive organisation committed to funding radical change towards a better world.
The JRCT makes grants to individuals and to projects seeking the creation of a peaceful world, political equality and social justice.

In 2005 the trust launched a scheme with the aim of supporting six applicants full-time to carry out their personal missions as "Visionaries for a Just and Peaceful World". Seven people were chosen, with two sharing an award.

Famous quotes containing the words charitable and/or trust:

Whensoever any affliction assails me, me thinks I have the keyes of my prison in mine owne hand, and no remedy presents it selfe so soone to my heart, as mine own sword. Often meditation of this hath wonne me to a charitable interpretation of their action, who dy so: and provoked me a little to watch and exagitate their reasons, which pronounce so peremptory judgements upon them.
    John Donne (c. 1572–1631)

Children’s self-esteem develops in proportion to the depth of trust that is reached in the parent/child relationship.
    Stephanie Martson (20th century)
