Early Years
Jonathan Edwards was born July 28, 1946 in Aitkin, Minnesota. At the age of six he moved with his family to Virginia where he grew up. At the age of eight he began singing in church and learning to play piano by ear. While attending military school, he began playing guitar and composing his own songs. As a teenager he began performing in front of audiences.
I started on a $29 guitar and immediately started putting a band together, writing songs and learning all the contemporary folk songs of the time. I just loved it, loved everything about it, loved being in front of people playing music. While studying art at Ohio University, he became a fixture at local clubs, playing with a variety of rock, folk, and blues bands.

Famous quotes containing the words early years, early and/or years:
“Even today . . . experts, usually male, tell women how to be mothers and warn them that they should not have children if they have any intention of leaving their side in their early years. . . . Children dont need parents full-time attendance or attention at any stage of their development. Many people will help take care of their needs, depending on who their parents are and how they chose to fulfill their roles.”

“He had long before indulged most unfavourable sentiments of our fellow-subjects in America. For, as early as 1769,... he had said of them, Sir, they are a race of convicts, and ought to be thankful for any thing we allow them short of hanging.”
—Samuel Johnson (17091784)
