John Shore

John Shore (c. 1662 – 1752) was an English trumpeter. He invented the tuning fork in 1711. Shore was Sergeant Trumpeter to the court, who had parts specifically written for him by both George Frideric Handel and Henry Purcell.

Famous quotes containing the words john and/or shore:

    To John I owed great obligation;
    But John, unhappily, thought fit
    To publish it to all the nation:
    Sure John and I are more than quit.
    Matthew Prior (1664–1721)

    Then you arrived, meditative, ironic,
    richly human; and your presence was shore where I rested
    released from the hoodoo of that dance, where I spoke
    with my true voice again.
    Robert Earl Hayden (1913–1980)
