John Rogers (Irish Lawyer)

John Rogers was the Attorney General of Ireland 1984 – 1987. He was educated at Rockwell College and Trinity College, Dublin.

The Labour Party demanded the right to choose the Attorney General in the coalition government of 1984. At the time Mary Robinson was expected to be chosen, instead the nomination went to John Rogers, who had not yet been appointed a Senior Counsel (SC). Traditionally a new Attorney General would have practised as a Senior Counsel for a number of years prior to his or her appointment. Rogers was appointed an SC on the day he was made Attorney General. He has worked as a senior counsel in the Law Library, Dublin from 1987 to date.

Famous quotes containing the words john and/or rogers:

Despite everybody who has been born and has died, the world has just gone on. I mean, look at Napoleon—but we went right on. Look at Harpo Marx—the world went around, it didn’t stop for a second. It’s sad but true. John Kennedy, right?
Bob Dylan [Robert Allen Zimmerman] (b. 1941)

And those handmade presents that children often bring home from school: They have so much value! The value is that the child put whatever he or she could into making them. The way we parents respond to the giving of such gifts is very important. To the child the gift is really self, and they want so much for their selves to be acceptable, to be loved.
