Awards and Honours

In 1989 John Kirwan was appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire and grained the right to the post-nominal letters MBE.

In the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2007 John Kirwan was appointed as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to mental health awareness. This appointment grants the post-nominal letters ONZM and there is no change in the appointees title or style.

In The Queen's Birthday and Diamond Jubilee Honours List 2012 Sir John was appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

This appointment grants the post-nominal letters KNZM and grants the knight the right to style themselves as Sir John. The wife of a Knight is addressed as Lady Kirwan or collectively as Sir John and Lady Kirwan.
