In 2012, the average ACT score at Hersey for the graduating class was 25.2. Hersey has made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, a state test that comprises a part of the No Child Left Behind Act.

According to U.S. News & World Report, Hersey is one of the top 30 schools in Illinois for the 2007-2008 school year. U.S. News also states that 48.6% of 12th graders participate in AP classes.
