John Cranch (1758–1816) was an English naturalist and explorer.
Cranch took part in an expedition in 1816 under Captain James Kingston Tuckey to discover the source of the River Congo, and died there. His friend William Elford Leach named a number of new species after him in his description of the expedition.

Famous quotes containing the word john:
“Fair, rich, and young: how rare is her perfection,
Were it not mingled with one foul infection!
I mean, so proud a heart, so curst a tongue,
As makes her seem nor fair, nor rich, nor young.”
—Sir John Harington (15611612)
