Life Before Entering Parliament
Cobb was born in Bathurst, son of Lee and Mary Cobb, and was raised on the family property near Mount Hope, New South Wales.
From the 1980s until his candidacy for Federal Parliament, Cobb was active in, and spent three years as President of, the New South Wales Farmers Association, a lobby group representing farmers and rural and regional communities. He also continued to farm the family property. In 2000, an accident on the farm (Cobb was not present at the time) claimed the life of an employee, Kenneth Johnson. Charges were laid against Cobb as Johnson's employer, resulting in a conviction and fine being imposed, not long after Cobb was elected to Parliament.

Famous quotes containing the words life, entering and/or parliament:
“The clergyman is expected to be a kind of human Sunday. Things must not be done in him which are venial in the week-day classes. He is paid for this business of leading a stricter life than other people. It is his raison dĂȘtre.... This is why the clergyman is so often called a vicarMhe being the person whose vicarious goodness is to stand for that of those entrusted to his charge.”
—Samuel Butler (18351902)
“The American adolescent, then, is faced, as are the adolescents of all countries who have entered or are entering the machine age, with the question: freedom from what and at what price? The American feels so rich in his opportunities for free expression that he often no longer knows what it is he is free from. Neither does he know where he is not free; he does not recognize his native autocrats when he sees them.”
—Erik H. Erikson (19041994)
“A Parliament is that to the Commonwealth which the soul is to the body.... It behoves us therefore to keep the facility of that soul from distemper.”
—John Pym (15841643)
